hood hinge

The driver's side hood hinge on our '69 Cutlass wants to fold down before the pass side. It was like this before we took everything apart to paint it. We put new springs on the hood when we put it back on but that didn't make a difference. The driver's side fender & front of the hood showed some damage from a minor wreck years ago when we stripped them. While the hinges were off I layed them side by side & couldn't see any damage. Do you think the hinge could be tweaked, or is something else going on? None of the usual suppliers have a new hinge in stock, they're all on back order.

Hate to ask a dumb question, did you soak them in penetrating oil, mine did that and also wouldn't close down flush with the fenders and lubing them made them work like new.

Didn't do that, but I did work a bunch of lithium grease down into all of the pivot points. Do you guys think the grease is too thick? If so I'll try oil.

The pivot point rivets wear out and that happens oil helps, but doesn't take away the wear.

Fixed

Got a used hinge from oldspackrat. Worked like a charm. Hood doesn't dip down at the cowl now. We got everything as lined up as it's going to be. Thanks Scott!
