Vinyl roof restore ??

Hi,

I have a 1971 Cutlass 2door HT. The vinyl top needs to be installed. I have a couple of areas need to be addressed first. The drivers side where the qtr meets the roof panel looks to be filled with body filler, has a deep gash in it, do I need to take down to bare metal and start over with fresh filler or just down to good filler and start from there? also, I have a pinhole behind the main cross brace in the roof, should I weld that up or use POR patch and let it go?

Thanks

If it were my car I'd strip the entire roof to bare metal so you know what you have going on. Lots of shady work is hidded under those roofs. Then you can make a better decision on repair. Metal repairs always better than smooth out with filler if needed. I'd weld and grind the pin hole but thats me.
