Re-chromed bumpers back from Ogden
Re-chromed bumpers back from Ogden
69 442 Restoration. I know there have been several post about re-chroming bumpers, but I thought I would start a new one. I looked at Ogden Chrome's Web site and then talked to a sales rep and was pleased enough to let them do my bumpers and some more pot metal. We agreed on a price for the bumpers (around $400), but they needed to see the pot metal before quoting a price. The bumpers were very reasonable, but the pot metal was a little pricey. It is harder to work on and everyone is high. They sent FedEx to pick up my bumpers at their expense mid-March. All I had to do was have the bumpers wrapped up for shipping. I got my bumpers and other parts back last week and could not be more pleased with the quality of all the parts. My bumpers had a lot of little dents and nicks and a few twists and bows. They look perfectly straight with all the right contours. The finish on the chrome (triple plate) is excellent. I don't see how they could look any better at any price. I had to send some pot metal for pieces that are not reproduced and I was also pleased with them. Based on my experience, I would reccommend them. They are Ogden Chrome (ogdenchrom.com) in Ogden Ut.
No, $400 each. That would be a little too good to be true.
Pot Metal. I don't have the invoice right now, but, I had them do a shift lever, the console bezel, and both outside mirrors (one remote) and it was about $600. A place in Houston was a little cheaper, but I didn't want to send to two places. Free shipping on all parts. They will pick up any parts for free, and then give you an estimate. If you don't like the price, they will ship them back.

Here in Cali I paid a guy $200 bucks to bend the front bumper back into shape on a 71 cutlass supreme and to rechrome it. He only dipped it once though because thats the regulations here.. In Arizona they triple dip. The pot metal they also said would be pricey and there was a chance of it yellowing. Maybe try and see if there's a local ma and pa chrome shop? But if its good work, cant complain.
I would say its nice for a driver.. I mean they did really good work especially with the way they were able to like untwist the bumper. But as far as the actual chrome I would call it driver quality. I like the idea of triple dipping. And now that someone has again hit the bumper, I can see how thick the chrome was on. Just kinda flaking off.
