Ok I'm getting ready to replace the trunk floor and the package tray and rear deck plate (between windshield and trunk). The body is off the frame and it is supported so I can work standing up. I have a complete trunk floor pan with the drops from a wrecking yard. I also got the package tray from the same car as the trunk floor. I will be buying a new deck plate. See pictures.


1. I need to know where and how I will need to install bracing.


2. What do I replace first. (My thoughts are the package tray and deck plate after the trunk floor bracing is out or leave it in?).


This is something I have never done but not afraid to take on. I can weld and have done some body work but nothing like this. Any and all advise will be appreciated.

 

Did you ever replace the package tray area? How'd it go? I'm about to get mines replaced as well once I find a bodyshop that'll do it

 

No I have not been able to get back to it, I lost my father the end of Nov. and with the winter we are having just have not had the energy to get back to it.
I do have most of the panels spot welds drilled out and it won't take much to get the old out.
I am going to be looking into maybe paying someone to help me do this. I can learn something and still get the benefits from a pro. I have the tools and just enough knowledge to get myself in trouble so to speak.
I still have to get the replacement panels ordered.

 

Aj if you look up my "64 post car update" build in major projects, its very extensive and still not done! But it may give you some ideas and feel free to ask questions.

 

Few package tray pics. After I wire wheeled the surface rust where the package tray sits on top I hit all of that with Eastwood's Rust Encapsulater, just because! Then positioned the new package tray.

 

I bought a full trunk floor from a donor car and asked the seller what is the best way to do it. ( since your body is off the frame the following may not apply). He recommended doing it with the body on the frame and cutting a quarter panel enough to pass the floor thru the side where the quarter was. In my case that's fine because after the floor is in I will replace the quarter panel because it's bad anyway. He said support the sides so they don't sag too much. If your quarters are good, from what I've heard you will have to install the floor in pieces instead of full. Can you pass the full trunk through the interior since you are changing the package tray?

Thanks went thru your post looks pretty straight forward, lots of work no biggie I got time. I am most likely a month or so from really getting into it, going to pick up some bracing just to make sure nothing moves. Was going to do the package tray first then the tulip panel before the trunk floor. What I have left of the floor before it comes out will help support the wheel wells. That supports the trunk lid hinges, these will have to be reused with the new package tray.
I have had a lot of time to just look it over and see how it was put in. Wish me luck.

 

Sorry to hear the passing of your Dad. I give you a lot of credit to take on a project of that size. Luckily you have some experience and training with welding - with the replacement parts installed it will be even a nicer car.
