Window Moulding

I recently reinstalled my front and rear window chrome mouldings. After I put it down I thought if maybe I should have put down some sealant under the mouldings. When I painted the car I did put down epoxy primer on the bare metal all over. But I am thinking that if water settles there in the window channel that I might eventually have a probem where rust might begin to happen. There was no rust when I had pulled the moulding off prior to me painting the car but there was a lot of black sticky stuff in there like maybe a rubber seal. I dont thing that was original to the car. All the glass was removed from the car. Is it a good idea for me to pull the mouldings back off and put some type of sealer in there and when the car was assemble did they seal the window mouldings?
