Rust repair and paint 1971 cutlass

I have some rust on my trunk and hood that I'm trying to seal up before winter. Trying to tackle this myself, any tips, tricks or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Wow!
Is there any primer under that paint? Im no body expert but definitely looks like a step was skipped somewhere along the line or an inferior product was used? Raw metal exposed now and rusting so really only way is to sand, grind or blast rusted areas and apply a good primer preferably epoxy primer to seal and protect. It will obviously need to be painted. The rust will continue unless removed.

Unfortunately, it looks like whoever painted that car previously did not prep the metal properly before painting it. You should strip it completely and remove all the rust before using a good quality 2K primer. If not, the remaining original paint under your new paint will continue to lift, taking the new paint with it.

Yeah, it looks like whoever painted it previously did a bad job. I appreciate the help, I guess I'll be doing a good amount of sanding this weekend. Thank you guys.
