Rechroming bumper-anyone know this guy?

Somebody on the forum turned me on to a rechromed front bumper on eBarf. By the time I got to look, it was already sold. I sent a question & he quoted $300 to straighten & rechrome my present bumper.

1. Price reasonable?
2. Anyone done business with this guy: chromeguy. How's his work?

Thanx 4 any feedback!

Honestly it seems WAY low for a rechrome. He's probably only using a two stage flash process, most likely eliminating the nickle (due to the high cost). Flash chrome is what was done at the factory because of the speed.

Not saying its going to be a BAD job by any means, but its probably not triple plate show chrome.

Just do a search on him and look at his website.

The HAMB has some info, good and bad, no glowing reviews.
He seems to do a lot of business in Europe because he'll ship there but guys have had problems, others are happy. It seems like he subs out the parts for plating?
I wouldn't take a chance with the guy myself but that's up to you.
His biggest draw is that he'll ship to Europe, you guys always know ways to get the stuff if places won't ship there.

I've always heard good things about Tri-City Plating in Tennessee. They only do bumpers and may even have a core to plate or a plated one in stock so you could save on shipping yours to them.
With shipping costs it may be cheaper to buy a nice core from somebody over here and sent directly to the plater.

http://www.tricityplating.com/

They do the big swap meets so you could fly over and pick it up at a meet when it's finished then check out the parts and cars.
Do you think it would be carry-on luggage?...just shove it under the plane seat.

I think we may have to put a stop to this people, American automotive artifacts and automobiles are leaving fast with the dollar down. It's like taking all the antiquities from Egypt in the 19th century.

If you are just looking to rechrome yours, what about looking around in your area in Germany? I am sure there has to be somewhere within a hundred miles or so... It would save a lot on shipping costs and possible damage in shipment, and you can see their work before hand.
I know cars over there have always been low on chrome, but look for shops that do it for industry or motorcycles. A bumper is big, but there should be a few places that could do it... (At least I would think...)

eBarf? Hehe... Great name - fitting in a lot of ways!

I would bet there are no rechromers in Europe. Those guys have some STRICT emissions and recycling laws. Takes a lot of chemicals and chemical waste to do bumpers right, and would probably cost him 3X as much if he did find one there doing them.

Exactly! That's why I'm going this route. IF there are any that are able to do something as big as a bumper, I haven't found them! PLUS: labor costs are much higher here (master mechanic Euro 65-85/hr= ~$95/hr & up!).

Thats a real bummer - I did not know that...

I do know there is a place here in Texas that does good work - HAMM36 got his bumpers rechromed there and I think they looked great! He did point out some tiny little voids and tiny scratches, but you have to consider they were used to begin with and look much better than they were. I will go the rechrome route in a few years when i am ready for it...

Try Keystone Automotive in Grand Rapids, Mich (formerly Mid West Bumper). Their website is www.keystone-auto.com. They have a lifetime warranty on their work and stand behind it. I had my bumpers on the 71 Cutlass rechromed over 20 years ago and they fogged up and they rechromed them at no cost. It's been over 4 years since the 2nd job and the bumpers look fantastic.

Good luck
