I had same issue in my 70. I went in with door panel off and jimmied around with a screw driver on the lock mechanism while a friend pulled in the door handle from outside with button depressed. Took a while but finally popped open.

Thanks that worked! But there seems to be a square piece of plastic next to the latch that gose around the striker, it has some kind of spring tension on it. With the latch closed when you press the button at the door handle in it only lets go half way, then i get in there with a screw driver and move this square plastic piece around thevlatch will let go and open. This something anyone knows about or is it time for a new latch?

The door never had problems b4 this. Today i did replace hinge pins and bushings so the door was off. But i dnt think i messed anything up..

Well after some in and out and a few beers i went back into the garage to take another look at that latch. I decided to just pop that plastic piece i talked about before out. Figured it couldnt hurt, it was already broken and couldnt get much worse. Popped that sucker out and walllah the latch works again. I think that plastic piece got smashed when i shut the door during adjustment causeing it to A. Break and B. block the latch from unlocking.

Dam thing had me going all dayy
