Piece around tail lights

Hello, I have recently bought a 1965 F-85. This must have happened in towing before I bought the car, but around the tail light on the right side there is a plastic piece that is broken. It goes on the side and top of the light and stops at the bumper. Any idea what it could be so I can replace it?

Would you share a photo with us? The only plastic I'm picturing is the red lens, everything else is metal.

x2 on sharing a picture. The big Oldsmobiles (Toronados & 98s) had bumper fillers that are often deteriorated.

I think he's talking about a quarter panel extension, but I didn't think they were plastic.

You're right, it's not plastic. I hadn't really inspected it until I took the picture. Yeah, when I went to pick the car up it was like this. I can only assume what happened, but my guess is that it occurred in towing.

I thought it was plastic because of how it broke. I didn't expect that from metal, ignorance on my part.

Pot metal, so it does break like plastic! This is not reproduced so good used is your only option, but there should be several members here with spare parts. I'd encourage you to create a parts wanted thread and include this photo. Also be aware that 1964 and 1965 look similar, but they won't interchange. You need to be sure and get one from a 1965. John

If you can't find the piece from a parts car you might be able to repair that one. Good luck. 👍
