Mirror Question

This might sound stupid but pls keep in mind Ive had the car a week and no nothing about Cutlasses....are there suppose to be side mirrors on both the drivers side AND passenger? and is there suppose to be a rear view mirror? I got the car for a steal of a deal because the guy ran out of money to fix the car, so I don't know if he skipped putting the passenger and rear mirror on or if that is how these older cars are? Thanks

There should be a rear view mirror. It would be possible to have one on the pass. side but would have been an option. If you want one on your pass. door they are repoduced. This place is good for parts www.fusicks.com

Very nice car and I love the color on it for some reason, Anyways yes you should have a rear view mirror on the car and by the mirror you have showing I would say that your car only came with driver's side mirror due to the fact it's a chrome non rally mirror (looks even non factory) so you might shop around some parts stores for the match to it.......... all in all have fun with it looks very nice.............Anthony

I believe it is a standard non-remote mirror. Then there is a chrome remote mirror and then the body color rally mirrors. If I'm wrong someone will correct (probably Joe). I think he has forgotten more than I will ever know.

Nice ride, dig the digital gauges.

Fusick's has the mirrors.
Put a rear view camera in and watch behind you on that dash monitor.

That mirror base and head look like original type but the pedestal part looks too long?

I'm ordering the rearview from Fusick.com soon and debating on the passenger side mirror, wondering how they will put it on because the paint is covering the holes to install it....

take the inside upper door panel off and gently (use a rubber hammer) and a punch and push the holes back open from the inside, the new base will hide anything that flakes.

Also before you do this make sure you put some like painters tape on the outer part of door to prevent any significant paint chipping. It can be done just make sure to take your time.

hahahah i wish I had a pool! Yea if they dont match ill just switch out the drivers side. it must be loose because when i drive it moves by itself from all the movement. My favorite part has gotta be the flowmaster growling I love waking up the neighbors!

omg im so jealous. I live in track homes about 20 mins from the Las Vegas strip. on one side of me is a park, which is beautiful, the other is a vacant house. No complaints yet, a few stares from the soccer moms though oh well!

You need to get some 1970 sport mirrors on that thing. That's the only one's that will look good on there if you ask me. (I wonder why?? )
Edit: Don't mind the dirt. I had just got it off the trailer from Illinois.

I have a backyard, no pool, cornfields or quarries though.
Those are just up the road a little behind the Alpaca ranch.
I have two visible fenced acres and my dogs own it.

Unless there was a right side mirror and somebody bondo'd the holes over there is no mounting provision for the factory mirror.

The mirrors mount to keyholes in the doors with a special headed screw with a hex or allen wrench fitting on the end. You can see where you turn it through the holes in the base, you screw them in a little then just slide the mirror back and up to remove. The driver's side has one larger hole to put the remote cable through if it has one, no right side remote mirrors back then so just two of the same size keyholes.
The left side has a brace under the holes, basically another piece of sheet metal doubling the thickness. It is needed or the mirror will bend the single layer of sheet metal after awhile or if you pull or lean on it.
The right side door will have to have the keyholes made and a support put in to install a factory mirror.
I made a support from sheet metal then cleaned up the inner steel good and glued it in with epoxy adhesive. They have the Sport mirror supports on evilbay, same deal as the regular, just search Cutlass sports mirror support, Inline Tube has them too. They rarely say anything about them when they sell the right mirrors? They're listed in the Oldsmobile parts catalog so it's not a new thing. They always show pics of the left mirror in listings for them but they're for the right side. I'm totally sure all of them have the support on the left...maybe.
Sport mirrors would look sharp, need to get those free guys to work. Need a fab guy to install them and if you use the sport mirrors a painter, or can you handle it? Not asking because you're a girl, I live in a house full of girls, even my three dogs are girls, I never-ever underestimate.

I just did mine a few weeks ago.
The brace isn't in and the rear hole isn't perfectly round, but it works and all covers up.

Yes. Any car 1968 and newer. My truck was a 71 so it needed it. Thats when I got the recomendation from someone I trust to go to Silver State.... My Chevelle is a 67 so I just make the cut off... The 64 Olds is good too.. when ever I get around to it....

Thank god I don't have to smog my 70 here in NAZISMOG CA.
Hell in Illinois anything 95 and older doesn't get tested any more (Non OBD II).
And get the sport mirrors and have a paint shop match the color. Believe me it will be worth it .
