How is the rear quarter attached to the wheelwell?

How is the rear quarter attached to the wheelwell?
71 cutlass convertible. On my patch panel I am wondering how the wheelwell is attached to the quarter panel. Spot welds or some kind of glue? If glue will heat weaken it so I can get them apart. Thanks

Back in the day they were spot welded. But there has been some discussion about new technology of glue that people are using. I don't remember who's thread, but if you do a search you might find it. John

In 71 all metal was joined by welding. Using adhesives came much later.

welded.go buy a snap-on ga219b i believe is the part number.these will cut just to the outside of the spot welds.then grind down whats left

You can also just use a cut off wheel to grind the welds down and then chisel the old panel off once the top panel and weld have been weakened.
