Hello All,

I am in the middle of a frame off on my dads 1972 Cutlass S. We need a full one piece floor pan with braces and inner rockers included.

I am having a little stress with the vendors and trying to determine who has the right part....

OGPI - Has the part listed as a 70-72 only for around $925 negotiated.

AMD - Has the part listed as a 68-72 for around $600

Rock Auto - Has the part listed as a 68-72 for around $450 but does not include rockers.

I would love to buy this from Fusick but they don't carry the item. Can anyone tell me why OGPI has the 68-72 broken out into two parts? Or why AMD can offer this at $300 less?

Please let me know if you have any experience with these pans...Saying I'm lost is an understatement.

Ask each vendor who the manufacturer is and consult their tech line or catalog.

 

Thickness of the metal, quality of the stamping, even thickness and quality of the electroplate and the packing used in shipping all add up. You get what you pay for most times.

 

After much research and comparing the different vendor's parts, I bought the AMD pan with braces and inner rockers from Tamraz's ebay site. I lifted the body off the frame and supported it with 12" long 4x4 blots which were lag bolted to the frame for stability. I cut away the old pan into medium-sized pieces and used a special drill bit to drill out all the factory spot welds. I had to trial fit the new pan about 10 times before I got it to fit well. I tacked welded in the front and the rear leaving the rockers welds until last. I made sure all the body mount locations were supported with a 4x4 block to keep everything true to the frame. The hardest parts was getting the top of the rocker to meet snuggly with the new AMD pan. Here's a few pics:

There is one thing to watch out for with the AMD pan. The seat belt mounting holes along the rocker panels were in the wrong place for my bucket seat car. On my pan the seat belt mounting nuts were welded on the front side of the cross brace. When I compared to my original factory floor I realized they needed to be on the back side of the brace. So glad I saw this before I welded the new pan into place as it would have been much harder to fix after the fact. My solution was to use a grinder and a dremel (it can be kind of tight) to remove the square nut. I drilled a hole in the correct (forward) location and welded the same nut on the rear side of the brace. To plug the old hole I welded in a knock out from an old metal electrical box which was a perfect fit.
