h body door hinges

thought i might ask here because ive got no help from the h body forums on this question .is anyone familiar with how the door hinge springs attach on the 1980 starfire? its a two piece hinge one welded to the door and one welded to the body connected by a simple door pin .ive replaced the hinge bushings and took care of all the play in the door.i found a door hinge spring laying on the floor when i bought the car .i can see a boss on the body side of the car where the spring would seat but see nothing the other side would rest against .there is a small plate built into the hinge but does extend far enough for the spring to rest on .its very possible that part of that plate is broken .pics of the hinge assembly would be great .ive had zero luck finding anything on the internet .btw the passenger side is the same with no spring so i cant reference that side. thanks in advance

Jeff, you mentioned that the passenger's side door hinge is the same as the driver's side. What makes you think the spring comes from the door hinge? Do the doors not close properly?

Well I wonder if there could be something broken in the passenger side as well, just no spring to show for it . And both doors swing freely with no resistance . It sure looks like a door spring and fits perfectly in raised boss on the body . I’m going to takes some pics after work and post that may help

in the first pic i would think the piece in the middle of the hinge would have something on the back side of it to contain the spring.in the second pic you can see the raised nub the spring fits over.the passenger side is exactly the same.

It doesn't seem like there are any pieces missing. Especially if the doors work properly. If the spring you found in the floor board when you bought the car had come out of the hinge there would be wear patterns on the hinge or the door. Post some pics of the spring if you get a chance. Hopefully somebody else has some input.

There used to be an H body (71-80) specialist in British Columbia. Remember the ads in the old magazines. They may have gone the way of the Dodo Bird.
