front fender moulding
front fender moulding
does anybody know where to find the proper fastner for the moulding on a front fender for a 69 cutlass? the rear 3 holes have what seem to be barrel nuts that you just push your fastner into and it hold it in place.what size would they be?
If you are talking about the long stainless piece that runs at the peak of the fender from the front to the door, I've attached a picture of the type of fastener used originally by Olds. You might be able to find these fasteners through Au-ve-co (Auto-Vehicle Parts Company) or an auto parts store that carries Au-ve-co fasteners. You can search for a local distributor of Au-ve-co products on line. I've also seen them advertised in the Fusick (www.Fusick.com) catalog, part number FFM689, for $4/each (doesn't include the little speed nut that fastens on the back side). That is a little steep but, if you need them, I guess that's the price they get.

You can buy those Auveco T-bolts through Fastenal, number 016246. A box of 50 usually runs about $35 but does not have the nut which I believe is 10-24 thread.
However, I believe the problem is the fender is on the car and rodan is looking for a way to attach the molding back near the door since it's not possible to access the back of the fender with it on the car. There is a "barrel nut" which is a metal tubular insert that can be placed into the fender hole but I don't know if it will accept the stud of the t-bolt well enough to hold it. This is the same type of insert that is used to hold the numbers or emblems to the deck lid on many models. One may exist, but I don't have the data to say if it will or won't. You would need to measure the hole in the fender and then go to a Fastenal store, explain the application and see if they can get you what you need to work with the above t-bolt.

You can only get to one of the three rear of fender trim nuts without removing the fender. You can actually remove the 2 fender bolts in the engine bay, one bolt at the base of the piller under the door, hood hinge bolts and then gently pry the fender out enough to get the nuts on.........or you can use a good 3M double sided tape.
There weren't originally any barrel nuts on the front fender trim. The rear moulding, peak moulding, and nose moulding was attached by speed nuts. The repro peak clips use the 10-24 nuts
