Convertible decl molding removal??

On a 68 442 converttible, how do you take the molding that goes around the back of the top on the rear deck by truck off? I am trying to get ready to prep for paint and need to get that molding off.

I think it's called the pinchweld molding.

Here's how I did it. I had to put the top down a bit so I could get in just forward and under the pinch weld molding. Back there you should find small phillips screws that hold the pinch weld brackets in place (1 screw for each bracket). You have to remove the screws to all the brackets (there are 7-9 brackets, as I recall). This frees each bracket and then you can get the pinch weld molding and brackets away from the car, and the brackets away from the pinch weld molding. When you re-install, install the brackets first. The screw for each bracket acts as a sort of clamp, holding the bracket to the body. Then, position the two pieces of the pinch weld molding where they are supposed to be, and then the pinch weld molding snaps onto the brackets. There might be a better way to do it for removal and installation, but that's what I did!

Now, my memory is failing me. I don't recall if there is just one screw, or if there are two screws, for each bracket. In either case, the rest of the process is the same. You can purchase new brackets through Fusick if you need them.

Well....finally got around to removing the pinchweld molding. It didn't have any brackets as described. It had 5 screws (1/4 inch head, not philips). They seem to act as set screws, and the moding had lots of sealer under it. Did prior owner remove the brackets, or was there different ways they put these moldongs on. Need to know to put them back on.
