'70-'72 Convertible quarters

I'm restoring a '70 convertible. I have a '70 Supreme parts car. I know the the whole quarter panels are different. Are they different from top to bottom or just the top. If there the same from 2/3rds down I was thinking of cutting them and using them and not using the top 1/3rd.

Thoughts please.

I think they are the same except the small area where the Supreme hardtop QP makes the transition into the sail panel. In other words, you should be able to use almost the whole QP.

Cut one QP off the hardtop and/or do some serious measurements first. You want to avoid, at all costs, having a weld seam 2/3 or 1/2, etc up the face of the QP.

I'm pretty sure I have heard in the past that you can use the whole QP and you may have to do a little tweaking/re-forming where the top edge of the QP hides under the convert pinchweld stainless moulding.

Again, get out the tape measure and do some comparing first. If you want to cut off the hardtop QP then cut the WHOLE thing off and then start trimming it back around the sail panel and see how it lays over your convert QP.

You can use the Supreme HT quarters for convertible patch panels, but before you cut up perfectly good HT quarters, consider selling those and buying the repro full quarters that are available for convertibles. Welding a seam in the flat part of the quarter is challenging and sometimes the seam will reappear when you park the car in the sun due to thermal expansion of the sheet metal. The full quarters will also take much less labor to install and finish since you will be replicating the factory seams which are hidden for the most part.

thanks for the posts guys. I'll cut the QP then decide the best route. Selling them whole a option.
