3m double sided tape.

first of all guys I work in the field and this tape seems to work well for most applications. The question i have is will it hold up for a decent amount of time namely years on rocker covers for a 71 with out the usual holding clips. The new rockers i do not want to gum up with holes or possible rusting. I thought this way would be hidden from all but the longevity question is in check. I am open to all rational thoughts.

If you perp it right it will never fail. I have used it on hunderds of cars and never had one come back. Some of those moldings are bulky too. Just make sure you use the alcohol prep pad before applying and a spray adhesion promoter on the tape just a spritz goes a long way. You may need to panel bond something on the inside to (bump) up the area where the tape mounts. I dont remember excatly how the moulding are on 71 but i think the do have some curvature You may not have the optimum tape mounting surface.

Great for moldings, but IMO, not too good for something with the temp variations of valve covers with hot oil thrown in!
I've been using 3M weatherstrip adhesive on the cover side only without any problems for 40 years.

I used it to attach some of the rocker moldings and a few other trim pieces on my Custom Cruiser when it was painted back in 2000. Stuff is still holding tight.

$hit - I'm getting old - couldn't figure how he was gonna trim the tape small enough, anyway!
Works great for rocker mouldings - guess saying rocker covers confused me!

thanks guys i appreciate your insight and experience, and like i said at the shops i worked for it was good for small stuff but bigger and heavier i never pushed my luck with it each piece is about 5 to 12 lbs i believe but i never weighed them before so that is up for grabs. I positively do not want them to drop off the car or cause rust problems. by the way good luck to all with your baby i hope your projects etc are worked out.

here is 1 last idea i have gathered for clean moulding installing. 1 get 2 boards thin enough and long enough and put them into the middle plus 2 flat screws each . 2 put the double sided tape over the ends and board obviously clean very well first etc. I am looking out for weight issues and this seems to work for spoilers with fiberglass and plastic mounting areas. I do not want to have rusting holes from the inside otherwise i would use the original clips.
