1969 442 stainless backing?

There was a black rubber type ribbon (now deteriorated) on my window trim stainless and a white ribbon on the back of the rear deck trim. Anyone know the purpose it (they) served and if replacements are available?

Thanks,
Randy

I have both a '68 & and '69 4-4-2 (convertibles) and I don't recall seeing seeing what you describe on either car. The '68 is a Lansing car and the '69 is a Fremont car.

My 442 is a hardtop and the ribbon appears to be on the stainless around the rear window.

Thanks anyway.

Yea I think I saw some thin clear (yellowed) plastic on the backside of my rear window trim. Not sure what it would be for? maybe anti-rattle stuff.

Thanks trooper. How did your rebuild go?

After some thinking I realized it serves two purposes. One to keep the metal from abrading the glass and two to keep debris from accumulating under the stainless. Still don't know where to get this stuff though. I might use black electrical tape the use an exacto knife to trim.

Any input would be appreciated.
