1966 442 trunk replacement
1966 442 trunk replacement
I am in the process of track packing my 66, so decided I needed to replace the rusted trunk pan before bolting in the battery plate for a trunk mount. I will post pics when its completed as I have to smooth it out a little more, then spray with spatter paint..I realize 66 was painted body color, however my car was painted black over the original TT code back in the early 90’s and they spatter painted the trunk then. To strip all that off and try to perfect the welded in 3 piece trunk to look like it should and tgen body color the paint is more work than I am willing to do. This is the first trunk I ever replaced, its a ton of work, especially for us past 60 guys. Very satisfying but damn am I sore..havent stood on my head inside and under a car in quite some time..Huge Thanks to Curt Anderson and Mike Richards on the 66 OAI kit and the tools/ slash guidance from both on my project. I should have the whole transition done in a month if I get the air cleaner top back from the chrome platers soon. Been a lot of work but a lot of fun too
thanks for the kind words..like 66 3x2 said, not bad for a rookie.lol
Nice, then you know how much work it is..one thing is on the repop floors aren’t as crisp on the stamping especially the spare tire bolt down area.. my spare tire area was solid so I cut around it and kept it as its much nicer than the repop stamping
Its completed. I used ac/delco spatter paint, sprayed the trunk satin black first then only took 1 3/4 cans of the spatter paint..No where on the ac delco can does it state I need to clear over it. I sprayed a piece of metal too, when its all dry I will do the water scrub test on that to see if I need to clear coat it..
I climbed my old *** into the trunk, thats how I did it. You can’t mig weld worth a damn if your reaching and bending over..anyhow I can’t. I need to be close up. Like I said for any of us in the late 50’s to mid 60’s crowd its a **** ton of work..😊..thank you for the compliment
