55 Super 88 windshield wiper tower bezels.
55 Super 88 windshield wiper tower bezels.
I'm trying to get these tower bezels off. I made a tool out of an old socket, to remove the nut that holds them on. They have tubes that run into the firewall, guessing for washer functions. One side popped out, guessing the washer tube popped off. The other one feels like something is holding it back. Tube? Any easy way to get up there to disconnect?
I was going to pull the gauge cluster out, but then realized it wasn't as easy as I thought. I'm amazed at some of the workmanship that went into these. Anyone have tips tricks to help me get the dash pulled apart without damaging it. I feel greener every day I dive into this project.

Just figured I'd throw out an update in case anyone else stumbles across problems getting these towers out. There is a lip on the bottom of the tower, near the casting number in this picture. It doesn't like to clear the body. I'm going to grind this lip so it has an angle, in case I need to remove it again. I guess the trick would be pry very gently upwards to allow clearance for this lip. If this car had good paint, it would have been a nightmare!!
Instrument Panel is out as well. PITA!!! Well actually,... the hardest part was physically getting it out. There are 5 nuts that screw onto studs that protrude from the back of the panel. When I tried to remove it from the dash, the steering column was in the way. I had to remove the column mast first, to allow for clearance. I left the shaft, and shift tube on for now. It's all got to come apart anyway I guess.. I have lots of pictures if anyone needs help down the road.
Anyone know someone who could restore the OD? Maybe check the instrument gauges? The numbers are flaking off the OD, but I'm pretty sure everything else works fine. Just with the PITA taking it out, and new paint; I'd rather someone check it out first, maybe fix the OD. Thanks.
