Hood Insulation.

I need to replace the underhood insulation on my 68 442 convertible. Fusik has 2 types ones over a $100 and the other is about $35. Does anyone know the diff between the 2? Thanks!

Well I'm sure the higher cost is the formed one as they had in the factory and the other is a flat looking if you look on ebay you can see the two on there as well.

The $99.50 version is the press molded hood insulation pad which fits the contours on the underside of your hood. The $33.50 version is their economy version and is not molded. In my opinion, the molded version quality is much better, and looks better. Just keep in mind, it will be an additional $50 to ship the molded version since it comes in a large box. People I know who have bought the economy have not been happy with it, and end up tossing it out, and buying the molded version. Below is a photo of mine which is the molded version.

The molded version is by far superior to the economy version. I used the molded version in my '68 4-4-2 convertible as well. It went in easy and it looks great - just like the real deal. I would advise against skimping on this item and go with the molded version.

I don't know where you live or what your urgency is on this, but given the expense of shipping the better one, and if you're not too far away from central Pennsylvania, you might work with Fusick to buy one from them but have them bring it to Fall Carlisle, which they attend every year and which is coming up in not much more than a month. Pick it up there and avoid the shipping. You'll have to pay sales tax, but that'll be less. Plus, it's an excuse to attend Carlisle!

Here's a pic of Teepo's, the $100 one from Fusicks. I also ordered the new fasteners to hold it on. Blue also glued it when he put it on. It's a nice pad - I'd recommend it!

Mine is missing completely and I have been contemplating the same. Have to ask a newbie question - what purpose does the insulation serve, especially for my car (69 cutlass 350)? Seems unneccessary in my situation, so educate me if missing something and sorry if this is considered a hijack.
Originality - for sure, but my car is a weekend driver. Mostly original but now show quality.
Noise - Makes sense for a highway cruiser, but I have a convertible with headers. Quiet is not in the equation.
Heat - We reached our 70th 100+ day in Austin yesterday, a new record. I'm more interested in a cool engine bay and the car will get very limited cold weather use.

It's the same purpose it serves on any car. It muffles the noise of the engine. It also keeps the hood cooler, and that will probably cause the paint to last longer, but that's a secondary issue. The primary one is simply a more pleasant, less noisy ride.
