Recipe translation

Yo!,
So with my 442 purchase I received a gallon can of paint with about 1qt of liquid in it and a recipe written on the lid. Any help would be appreciated. Basically, I'm trying to resolve if this recipe is a match to the Olds "Scarlet" from 1968.
Also, looks to be 13yr old paint based on this writing...can...should I stir it up and use it?

The \"Recipe"

Don't use that paint. The writing mentions it's a basecoat. What clearcoat would you spray over it if you used it? Can you guarantee that they wouldn't react with one another?

Is the paint on your car OE? If so, it's a single stage paint. If you're going to repaint it you have to decide if you want to spray SS or BC/CC.

Hahaha! Won't use it. That's the thing, the previous owner did a repaint and debadged the car, including the cowl tag, and so I have no idea original color. I guess I was wondering if there was anyone had an idea of those strange letter_number combinations equaled a certain color, "scarlet?"
if not, can I take that lid to a PPG place and have them use that recipe to create a match...color wise?

Possibly, but it might be better to do a paint match with a spectroscope.

Spectroscope...will my health insurance cover that?
funny, I thought having that paint can was a SCORE! Sounds like his son just wanted me to throw it away for him.
Thanks folks. You all are the best!

What is written on the lid in the photo is not a "recipe". All it says is that it is PPG Deltron 2000 basecoat (this refers to a brand & type of paint not a specific color) and that it has been mixed with a reducer in a 1:1 ratio so it is ready to spray from a gun vs. un-reduced basecoat which would be too thick to spray. There may be a lable on the side of the can stating the exact color mix, but there is no useful info on the lid to get a color from. At this point, you would need to have the paint matched with a spectroscope (camera) as suggested above.

No, but it'll be a lot easier on your butt.

The paint is most likely fine unless it is dried up. If you mix is up good and clear with a PPG compatible clear you can use it.

This statement is from PPG website.

PPG's Deltron® 2000 (DBC) Basecoat is a state-of-the-art, premium quality basecoat/clearcoat system designed to reproduce the hi-tech O.E.M. finishes found on today's import and domestic vehicles. Deltron® 2000 (DBI) Interior Color was developed for interior and underhood color matching purposes.

I would suggest you find a PPG distributor and have them scan the color on the car to see if they can match it.. It may be a color called "Match Red" and may be a stock PPG tint. If so, they can match it pretty close.

They can also shake your can to see if it is still good..

Good luck

Thanks everyone. Appreciate the help. There is a spot on the front pass fender, just over the wheelwell, causing a need for a fender repaint. Fortunate to have a couple PPG places near. I'd bet the PO went to one of em in 07.

To answer the original question, that's not the paint recipe. What that lid says is that they matched the red by tinting a PPG basecoat. "Deltron 2000" is just the paint family, not the color. The "Mixed 1:1" just means that what's in the can has already been reduced with DT870 reducer to thin it so it's now ready to spray. Nothing on the lid tells you the color mix formula.
