Weatherstrip Companies

There are numerous sources for weatherstrip. Through the years I have had both good and bad. Some are too soft, some so hard that the doors don't close.

What are you opinions on who is good, better and best, and who to avoid.

I have always had very good luck with SoftSeal.

I had a few items from Metro before and they were okay, but nowhere near the quailty of Softseal.

I have used several header seals on my Cutlass that all leaked. I have a Steele seal now that is better. The pillar posts all seem too short to seal at the top so it leaks at the front corner of the side glass. I have a 72 Chevy pickup that I replaced the door weatherstrip and the driver's door has to be slammed so hard I may break the metal of the door. That was an unbranded kit from a pickup parts place. It was installed over a year ago. I left it in the south Florida sun to loosen it up, but no help. The door was never a problem before, and adjusting the door outward so it is out of alignment is not a good option. I think that weatherstrip is too hard.

Great topic. I will have to buy some soon and not sure what to go with. I just can't understand why nobody can duplicate the original stuff better. I found an NOS trunk weatherstrip but I can not afford the door or roof rail in NOS.

I stay with Metro! The Softseal stuff for the trunk makes it too hard to get the lid to lock. I installed all Softseal around the doors and used the convertible top set and have NO complaints.

I bought a kit from Steele Rubber for my 71 98. It is better than the original weatherstripping that was on the car; however, if I do weatherstripping again in the future I will try Metro or Soff Seal. When I installed the weatherstripping from Steele Rubber the window to body rubber split. Thankfully the folks at SR made it right, it was just annoying.

Don't know the quality, but The Parts Place is selling latex skinned weather stripping for A-bodies now.

1954 Super 88 door and trunk weatherstrip kits

Hello all:
Does anyone know where I can find original design weatherstrips for my 54? I have purchased from J.C.Whitney and the doors never shut right and there was no response of inventory from Soft Seal.

I used Steele on my 55 and had no problems other than the ones I screwed up by smearing adhesive all over the paint. I would use them again if I needed weatherstripping....Tedd

Any new info out about this? I will be ready to get weatherstrip soon and still don't know what brand to get.

I went,

Rubber the Right Way. They have a website and sell on Ebay also.

Some stuff they sell is either Soft Seal or Steel N Rubber. Cannot remember.

But they used a list off a previous customer with the same vehicle as mine. Made things easier.

I have not heard anything yet, but The Parts Place is the only company that currently carries this OE style latex skinned weather stripping.

I have heard that the below company makes roof rail weather stripping for hard top body styles that actually has molded in angle for the top of the "A" pillar. This is a severe leak area for most reproduction weather stripping.
