Trim removal

How do you remove the 2 1/2" stainless molding in front of rear wheel opening on a '71 Cutlass converible. Got the rear speed nut off with no trouble. How do you get too the front stud by the door? Thanks.

You have to remove the fender, or at least unbolt the bottom and pull it out far enough to reach the nut. That trim was installed before the fenders went on the car.

Joe, I think he's referring to the piece between the rear wheel and the door. Sorry but I don't remember how that one comes off.

You're right, sorry. I read that too quickly. In that case you have to remove the back seat and the inner panels and reach in through the openings in the inner body structure.

Well, I'm glad I read this thread. I was wondering how those came off.

And now you know why so many of them have Phillips-head screws holding them on. Olds liked to hide the fasteners. Chrysler OTOH would just use a plated screw in first place.

I have found 3M moulding tape will generally hold most trim on. There are several pieces of rocker trim on the wagon that are still firmly attached with it after 21 years.

The right front piece was attached with 3 globs of clear silicone. Had to have been done over 30 years ago and I had to cut it to get it off.
