OAI Hood is on

Finally have the OAI hood on my SX. With the low tension springs the hood won't stay up. Does anyone have any suggestions for this? What about the under hood insulation for the OAI hood?

Thanks

Mine wouldn't stay up either. I ended up replacing the worn hinges with tight ones and now it's fine. As far as the insulation, I don't run any. Hope this helps.

Wow! The car looks really good. OAI hoods = no insulation, just a screen.

Yea, you have too make sure the hinges are in good shape, they have a lot to do with how the hood works, opens, closes...I went with the soft springs, and they worked really good. When I first put the hood on it still had the original springs, and the sounds it made when we tried to close the hood.....ouch. I love how these hoods look on the Olds'. There is not a better looking hood out there!

I changed spring on my 69 H/O until I was blue in the face with no luck, Finally, I just bent the ear that holds the spring the slightest bit. Voila problem solved.

sworthy555 - Which hood did you get, the glasstek from Parts Place w/o the metal frame? how was the fit? And how much work did it take to look as you have there?

It is a glasstex hood and I bought it locally for $450. The body shop charged me $700 for everything. It took quite a bit of work due to imperfections in the fiberglass, modifying the chrome etc. Of course it doesn't fit lit the original though it isn't a show car either but I really like the way it looks.

Thanks for all the nice comments!

did they charge you 700 for the work and the paint or just the body work on the hood. That is a smokin deal if it was total 700. I paid a **** load more then that to have some douche reglass my hood after fire damage and instead of fitting it on the car he did it off the car and when he put it back on the bow in the middle is crazy bad. Now of course I don't have the money, nor do i want to spend more to fix it....... Bad experience!! Yours looks great though
