newbie needs convertible top help

70 cutlass supreme, replacing the convertible top. Trying to do it myself, but had no old top to look at and take measurements from. The car came with a replacement top only, I will be reusing the old rear glass window and replacing the pads too. So far all is going pretty well and I will post some pics when I can. Question is, the new top has two folds of material hanging down from each side. Do these folds get attached to the metal frame UNDER the weatherstipping or in some other way??? Any help on this would be appreciated. Also, anybody know where I can get a black wire-on as the new top did not come with one. thanks again,

Right...you need to remove the seals on the frame sides and the material goes under there at the front of the front windows and qtr windows. Many suppliers like Convertible Top Specialists sell the wire-on. Some are smooth vinyl and some match the top material.

Thanks for the reply. That's what I was afraid of. I used weatherstripping adhesive to put the new seals in. Hopefully they come out easily. Live and learn I guess...

When you put them back on, you only glue the top, not the weatherstrip seals.

Instead of weather strip adhesive I used black silicone between the seals and the top frame. I figured it would seal up better to keep the rain out. When I pulled the the top off several years back the seals came off easily.
