How much paint?

wondering how much paint a typical a-body car takes? complete paint with jambs etc. I`m guessing 3 coats of paint ? almost black with 3 or 4 coats of clear..

I dont know what type paint you will use. I painted my B body 66 Sfire with Lacquer. Chose this for ease of use and originality. Bought 2 gallons of paint which makes 4 after thinning. Did not do door jambs and underside of trunk lid. Put 5 coats on and sanded in between each. I JUST had enough paint for the 5 coats.

Figure two gallons of base coat and at least one of clear coat, before reducing. Be sure to mix all the base coat cans together first before spraying anything to avoid any batch-to-batch variations.

I used Nason (duPont) paint to do a '67 Chevelle recently. This stuff reduces 2 to 1. I would not buy any less than 1 1/2 gallons of paint (that will give you 9 quarts of paint). That likely will be too much but you do not want to run out and you will need some for any touch up. I used about 1 gallon of clear-duPont- (mixes 4 to 1).
