Hi can anyone tell me what was in the lower openings on the front bumper of my 1976 toronado.

Belly button lint?


There's only about a zillion photos of '76 Toronados available on the internet. Googling a few looks like there wasn't anything in the opening. Maybe just to let air in? Just for styling? Is there evidence that there was something there at one time?
