1968 4-4-2 GT pinstripe color?

I am working on a 1968 4-4-2 convertible. It is Willow Gold with a black bench seat interior. It has a correct (by plate) white top. I am going to resist the temptation to apply the W-36 stripes on a car that did not come with it. I am going to paint on the standard pinstripe that follows under the stainless molding. VERY few restorations properly apply this detail. My question is without any paperwork to go by, would you think the stripe should be black or white? With the top down and the boot installed, black would look correct. However, with the top up, the white would match the top. Thanks for any opinions.

I think the stripes should be the color of the top.

Red or orange. I would go with red.

I parted a Saffron vert with a white interior and white top and it had a red stripe. Very sharp.

Any of the four available colors is correct for Willow Gold

I gotta go with white. With the top down, the 3-way color scheme with black interior, black boot, willow gold exterior and white stripe would look nice.

Sometimes, people are a bit leery of a 3-way color scheme. I had a '77 Grand Prix that was white with a black landau top and interior. I put a red pin stripe on it and got lots of positive feedback from others, some of which I didn't even know - they just came up to me and said how the 3 colors seemed to go together quite well.

So, I would go with the 3-way look. You already have it with the top up!

How come no one has offered the color stripes available?

According to this page )http://www.oldcarbrochures.org/NA/Ol...men-s-Specs-16) it says the stripe available for Willow Gold can be black, white, red, or orange.

White and black match everything, so you shouldn't worry whether it's black or white and how it matches the top or interior. Personally, I think white will bring out the Willow Gold. Red and orange can be interesting but 4 colors sounds busy.

I thought I did. He named the first two and I suggested the second two:
