Engine mounts not lining up correctly

Can anyone tell me why my new motor mounts do not line up correctly. As you can see in the photo's I can get one side mounted but the other side is off by 3/8 - 1/2 inch.

its possible you have the wrong mounts but if they are the correct ones you may have to loosen the bolts that attach the mount to the block and then work on getting the frame pad bolts to go... its a wives tale to me anyway that you need factory mounts to get the engine in...you just need a fair amount of patience because it is tight fit as it should be

dont tighten the nuts untill you get the long bolts thru the frame pads

Did you already tighten the first one before moving things around (side to side,up and down) to get the 2nd bolt in?

No, the first bolt was pushed through but not tightened and when I looked at the other side it was not lined up at all. I took it back out and installed it first on the other side of the engine and when I checked the other mount it was misaligned just like before. I will try to loosen the bolts on the block and then try to reinstall.

I believe I have the correct mounts unless I am mistaken.

Are you by chance installing a BB engine on SB frame pads? That would cause a problem.

1964-1968 frame mounts (all) - use P/N 2261 motor mounts
1969-1972 SBO frame mounts - use P/N 2261 motor mounts
1969-1972 BBO frame mounts - use P/N 2328 motor mounts
1973-1988 frame mounts (all) - use P/N 2328 motor mounts

Success! I loosened the bolts to the block and everything fell into place. Sometimes all it takes is another set of eyes or ideas. I get tunnel vision at times and can't see the obvious. Thank you all for your help!

Pogo, I do have the correct bolts with the tapered end on them. I will try to attach a pic that shows the correct ends.

Welcome to after market BBO motor mounts. There is not a single motor mount made for the BBO that will fit correct for 69-72 cars. You have to drill them out or switch to SBO frame pads and motor mounts. I made a set of after market mounts work by loosening them from the block and then mounting them to the frame pads then tighten the block side. Later I found that it slightly bent the frame pads. This is why NOS BBO motor mounts sell for $500+

I hear everybody on this I bought a pair of mounts and had zero problems and they were from = plus and yes they were built here in the usa I made sure of that. I have 1 other thing to say to anybody make sure you note the location of the holes on the block also that you used if it will be a while before re-installing it. this will save headaches also. I use my car hard and these have not had any problems yet even with 600 ft lbs of torque or more. just make sure that you solidly mount the radiator support the feet on the support can let go sometimes with tremendous force or a good launch. weld bolt support metal to the radiator support radiators are not cheap and neither is your engine.

The engine paint was purchased through Fusicks. I really like the way it has turned out. I am not sure how close it is to an original 1972 Olds 455 as I do not have an original to compare it to.
