I painted lots of them with ceramic high temp engine paint but have never tried clear. Don't paint the underside though.

X2 on the ceramic coating. Any paint you use will eventually burn and turn brown on the exhaust crossover unless you've blocked it. Most paints will also be damaged by fuel leaks. Ceramic is the exception, and the ones I've seen coated by HPC, Jet Hot, etc. are the best-looking. Of course, the result looks smooth and shiny, not like bare aluminum.

Why?
If prepped right its fine. In fact I paint the underside of all the non air gap stuff with ceramic paint, no issues.

For the rest I've used the cast aluminum paint by dupli-color and others. Looks great and so far, hasn't yellowed.

I used por 20. It held up really nice on my intake and water pump. But it did bubble up a bit on my headers. On the intake I had a pretty bad gas leak and it wiped right off after sitting overnight with out dis coloring the finish.

I was thinking of painting my exhaust with POR 20 before reinstalling in the car. Your header look great. Did the POR hold up pretty good? Did it smoke bad when you first started it up and the headers got hot?

Tried to clear my W30 intake and the high temp Eastwood turned brown in about 10 minutes.

Tore the darn thing off, stripped it, and put it back on un-coated. Been almost 6 years & still looks like new.

If anything gets on it, I soak a rag in lacquer thinner and dab it clean!

I'll never put anything on an aluminum intake again.

Good luck though.....

Joe

I agree if you paint a intake with clear etc it will brown eventually and I used the highest temp clear also. factory paints burn off also. I eventually took the intake off for sand blasting and now clean it up a couple times per year with aluminum cleaner,I found out that the intake can if kept clean looks pretty good over time this way.

I had mine powder coated.

The 330's intake has yet to see the engine, but the manifolds in the Alero are holding up very well after 7 years

Re

I have painted, polished, smoothed, cleared etc, many on top of many intakes/VLV covers etc. Clear has always been an issue for me on an intake, from VHT header clear, to eastwood clear, etc. I now SWEAR by powder coat.
