455 i.d

Hi All. i have a 455 (supposed 1971) I am trying to identify. head casting #409-100. Block Pad #31M403157. Front timing cover#396021F (serif type). Oil filler tube #1042477. Any and all help would be appreciated. trying to decide to rebuild?,Build bigger? or? it's in a '57 olds. super 88. thanks again.

The vin number stamped in it is correct for 1971. The head code could be a 1971 or 72. If its a 1971 there will be a large G just to the left of the #1 or #8 spark plug holes. If the heads are 1972 it would be a large G with a small capital A to the lower right of the G.

Good platform to build on. What's your goals for the engine?

Well, the number 1 in "31M" and the number 1 in "1042477" indicate that it is, in fact, a 1971 block.
