Casting #

First Olds project so I'm asking what may be silly ?'s to some of you. What do these casting #'s tell me about my 70 455 block? 396021F The heads are marked "E" Thanks

396021F = 455 Block
E Head = 1970 455 Head

The same block casting was used from 1968 through at least 1974 (yeah, don't believe everything in the FAQ). The F casting did overlap with the Fa casting. As noted the heads are 1970 455 except W-30. You'll need to check the VIN derivative on the block to determine the exact year of the block.

If I'm not mistaken isn't the derivative # behind the a/c compressor bracket or the pwr steering bracket? Thanks for the help

Yes Sir, You may have to remove the brace to see that small flat spot that the vin derivitives are stamped.
