425 crank
425 crank
I have a question regarding 425 cranks. There is a local guy selling a 425 crank with balancer and flywheel for 150 bucks and i thought all 425 cranks are forged is this right? Looking to build a spare 455 and maybe stroke it would this crank be a good candidate? He also has a set of heads for a 425 for the same money anyone have a need or a set let me know and i could pick them up. Thanks
Yes all 425 cranks are forged. But the 425 and 455 blocks are the same bore. So if you put the crank and rods from a 425 into a 455 block you'll end up with a 425 displacement.
The heads could be A,B or C castings and small or large valve. For most of those castings $150 is top dollar, but if you can get a little more information on them someone might be interested. Find out what letter they are, then what the application stamp code is on the end of one head. Typically one letter then a series of numbers and sometimes another letter at the end. That will help identify them. If he's got a micrometer you might find out if they have the 2.00 or 2.07 intake valves.

correct

then you need a 455 crank, not a 425 crank with a shorter stroke.
and maybe stroke it would this crank be a good candidate?

not for that Clever Plan, no. For a nice 425 which is arguably better than a 455... yes. You need the rods & pistons too.
He also has a set of heads for a 425 for the same money anyone have a need or a set let me know and i could pick them up.

For big valve C heads, maybe. For B's or A's, that seems pricey unless pristine. Or 442 application stamped.

Some people stroke the 425 crank and reduce the pin diameter to BBC, setting width for those rods. This is not a budget approach, however. It is an alternative for a race engine. For a regular built, even a 500 HP one, the nodular 455 cranks are fine.
