SBO Pulleys/Brackets to BBO

Is it possible to switch over the pulley/bracket set up from a SBO to a BBO? I don't know enough about this kind of swap and I want to know what's involved and if it's even worth it. Problem is I don't think I have the brackets from my last BBO and wondering if the SBO will just swap over. I'll have to scour the basement for the brackets.

It sort of depends on what year the brackets are. The early ones were sb/bb specific I believe, but the later sets were adjustable for both configurations.

I used the 260 brackets on my 455 in the 80 I owned with no issues.

I used the SB brackets/pulleys/accessories on the 455 I installed. You'll need slightly longer belts, and I had to make a spacer between the alternator and powersteering brackets (stack of washers) to get the alignment correct.

Did the swap in the early 90's, and it is still working fine.

OK, here's the scoop:

1964 SBO brackets are one-year only and will only fit an SBO (because the BBO didn't exist in 1964).

1965-67 brackets fit both SBO and BBO, but are unique to the 64-67 cars

1968-(about) 1977 brackets fit both SBO and BBO

1977-up brackets are SBO-only (since BBO production stopped after 1976). These brackets can be pretty easily modified to fit the BBO, however.

Note that the F-body SBO brackets are unique to the F-body cars.

Thx Joe, great explanation. I thought about a serpentine system but after listening to others thoughts on here I may stick with stock. I've never had a problem with them and sometimes simple is good.
