62 / 64 394 Timing Chain Case

I have a 64 engine that I want to put in my 62 Olds. Will the 62 timing chain case fit on the 64 block?

No !!! '61 and '62 are different Blocks in that regard. Why change the timing chain cover, or are you just trying to make it look like a '62?

I have a 62 Olds, but I wanted to put the 64 engine in it, however the 64 timing chain case and front motor mount are different. If I could put the 62 case cover on the 64 block, it should drop right in.

I would think the '62 mount brkt and mount should bolt to the '64 engine. I'm not sure, but I think the bottom cover bolt pattern is the same.
Send us some pic's of the two.

I haven't looked at the engines in about 20 years, so I don't have any photos. I thought I'd inquire before I start tearing the engine down.

After reading this forum I was inspired to get it up and running again. I'm thinking of putting in either a 1960 4 speed Hydramatic, or perhaps doing some modifications and putting in a 4L60 or 4L80, depending how much work I need to do to the floor hump.

I have a rebuilt Hydramatic on hand right now, so that might be a better choice due to the 2.87 differential gears, the 4L60 would probably lug the engine in overdrive.

The front timing chain covers are not interchangeable between the 61-62 engine, and the 63-64 engine. I ran into this back in the 1970's, and I will never forget it!

If this is so, the block castings must be different too?

I thought I'd post this here, since it is related.
I am needing a timing cover for a '64 394 Dynamic.
Mechanic says mine is pitted pretty badly from the aluminum vs. steel chemical issues.

I'm new here, and haven't scoured the forums by any means,
but if someone knows of a source I'd sure like to hear about it. Thx.

Try Fusicks or USA Auto Parts. I recently purchased a complete timing set for my 64 dynamic including gasket from Fusicks. Everything fit fine. I have had recent incorrect parts shipped to me from USA so be specific and call to verify delivery.
Where do you live I know of three dynamics in yard in Northern MN

I'm down in west central IL. I had thought about taking the cover to a custom shop and having a few thousands milled off the back of it, but I'm sure with the cost of making a fixture it would probably get cost prohibitive really quickly.
