Going rate for set of 8 pistons

What is about the cheapest I can get a set of 8 455 pistons for? Must be either .030 or .040 over. I have seen some on the net go for as little as $300. Good price, bad? Bare bones simple OEM type low comp pistons are fine with me.

Hey GS, that is a good price too. But no I have not made a decision yet. Whatever is cheapest really. If I can get away with just boring the two bad cylinders over .030 and then using the proper oversized pistons that is what i'd like to do. But some people are telling me it's a bad idea as it throws stuff out of balance??

proberly would run a bit rough, once you spent money on bearing, gaskets, rings and 2 pistons plus cleaning and boring 2 holes and all the work you put into it,i think the cost of doing the other 4 holes and having it done right is well worth it.

You can remove material from inside the piston with a Moto-Tool to balance the weights (though I doubt it would make a noticeable difference).
The difference in pulse power from the slight difference in cylinder size is probably less than the difference contributed by different lengths of intake tract to different cylinders.

GS - don't forget, he's running this thing in a military 6x6 truck with essentially no suspension.

The shop wants only $120 to bore both cylinders .030 over and that includes a hot tank job and new cam bearings! I'll be going this route then, I think it will be okay.

Would you happen to know the weight difference between an OEM piston and a .030 over piston? I can't imagine it would be enough to make a difference in my application. I like the idea of metal removal on the piston too to even the weight out.

If you think you can get away with boring those 2 cylinders .020,I have a pair of .020 pistons.$25.00,and they are yours.

Will definitely keep that in mind, thanks! I don't know if .020 would do it. I'll see what the machinist thinks....
