What you guys think
What you guys think
So with the seize of my engine and thinking about doing a rebuild, me and the guys did a little googling and ran across this article:
Olds 455 Buildup
tell me what you guys think or things i should change or what not.... AND GO!!!

It looks good but if i was to use those heads i would do a better more high compression piston. you will get more out of it that way.
if u use those pistons u will be better off using steel heads, aluminum heads like more compression.

what heads would you suggest then? and i think i am going to keep the cam i have in the car also, it has less intake but more exhaust i believe:
Specs on cam in it now:
Cam Grind No.: 280/250H-10
Intake/exhaust
Duration at .050: 230/235
Lobe Lift: .310/.315
Lobe seperation: 110
Seat Duration @.005: 280/285
Gross Valve lift: .496/.504
Valve Lash (Hot): 0/0
Degree intake lobe to: 106 ATDC
Hope people know what this means cause it was a lot to type lol

Just rebuild your bottom end..Fix whatever broke. If you don't already have good pistons, then Pick good pistons that will put you around 9.5:1ish (w/ iron heads) then go enjoy it.
You have to remember most magazine articles are basically ads for the magazines key advertisers, so take their build choices with that in mind.
Not saying their build didn't put out the power they say it does... just saying you can do it for a lot less w/o using fancy stuff.
You need to know what heads you have now(or what heads you want to run), and what pistons you currently have.
once you know that, then the other build options can be calculated.

O.K. here goes, I have a set of Ga heads for sale, 2.07 intakes, all new valves, guides, seats, and springs, $650.00 plus shipping. Springs would have to be changed if you went with a performance cam.
You have to figure out your budget first, then decide how much or how little hp you can live with. And if you go with good heads get a cam with more lift to optimize your build.
Jmo.

well it sounds like u have the heads and intake, so just depending on ur pistons u dont need much. unless u want alot more out of it. so u need to decide what u want out of it and what ur budget will allow.
Just a note........
You were talking about reusing your cam and or more parts......
If you spun a bearing and the shavings from afore mentioned bearing got run across the cam,Thru the lifters etc....its junk
Tear that hurt motor down and see what is reusable.......
Maybe my combo is a over achiever but with the TRW slugs and a decent port job it went 11.66@114mph on the motor shifting at 5800 and weighing in at 4000 lbs........
