Quadrajet question

Just had the 455 rebuilt in my 68, 98 rebuilt and it’s running a little rough. Was told the carburetor needs to be rebuilt and I agree. The number on the Rochester Quadra jet is 7029260 NF. From the number on the carb it seems to be from a 69 Pontiac. My question then is; what carb actually came with the car and should I just have the carb that is on it now rebuilt or should I try to find the original carb? For what it’s worth the choke on the present carb is a heat spring from the intake. Your thoughts will be appreciated, thanks, Rex

Run rough at idle only? or all the time? If seems OK at running speed, then the problem may not be the carb at all. About the number -- if the number itself doesnt mean anything to you and the choke mounts and works there would be nothing wrong with rebuilding the one you've got. Rebuilding carb may not be solution to your problem, but if it is old and needs done anyway - go ahead and do it.
