carb problem

not too knowledgeable about troubleshooting....Holley 4150 double pumper. no choke.

car had been running fine..then starting one time (and since) car keeps stalling at idle and is running so rich it makes me gag, even if outside. Keeps stalling at idle,, and raising idle speed to 1000 keeps car running but still the problem with running way too rich.

ideas about problem and how to fix ?

My guess is either your Power Valve blew out or you got some Trash up in the Inlet Needle and Seat.

Just check these two items first. Hope this helps.

What Dan said: power valve or junk in the needle and seat. Try removing the float bowl plugs. Have a rag handy. If gas pours out, you've got a stuck float. If not, it's probably the power valve.

Again, I'm kinda clueless about this kind of thing. Each bowl has screw and washer hole in the side..which you remove to inspect the fuel level. The front bowl level is just beneath the hole which is correct, and the rear level is a bit lower. I think read somewhere that the rear bowl level should be lower than the front bowl level but I am not certain that I read that.

Anyhow, I didn't take anything apart yet. now I'm at about 900 RPM idle without stalling out. Could this be OK ?

What size engine is it? And is that 900 rpm in park or gear? You should be able to idle at 600-700 without stalling. 900 is too high. Either way , raising the idle isn't the answer. There is something wrong that is causing it to run rich, you need to find out what it is. Otherwise performance/mpg will suffere greatly.
