Too much?
Too much?
I keep building big engines for my cars with mild cams and low compression. And they still ping even on 93. Maybe I use too much advance in the distributor. I'm thinking of building a 455 for my '66 442 with 8.5:1 pistons but using a much bigger cam: a 236/241 on a 114 LSA. It will have a manual trans. I could go 3.55 rear and M-21 or I also have a Richmond Gear 5 speed with .77 OD top gear. Is it too much cam (HFT) for that low compression. I already have all these parts. I have some ported 'B' heads and headers for the car already.

And you don’t mention anything about carb jetting and setting it up right. Make sure you’re not too lean in the higher load areas. That’ll promote detonation as well.
