Apology in Advance: '70 Toro 455 into '70 Cutlass Supreme
Hi, I'm apologizing because I'm certain this topic has been covered many many times. I couldn't easily find it upon searching. (I'm sorry, Joe - you've plowed this ground many times).
I have a running low miles 455 that I removed from a 70 Toronado. I want to put it into my 70 Cutlass Supreme 4-speed (NOM, 1975 Olds 350). I suspect the trans input shaft has been shortened and the bushing used on the crank.
I'm wanting to know everything I need to change on the Toro 455 for the installation into the Cutlass. I know the 350 parts will fit the 455, but maybe I'll keep the 350 complete for resale.
I have a correct 70 455 intake manifold and carb - I know this is not necessary to change for clearance but I plan on doing it.
I know the 350 oil pan will fit, but I'll get a 455 oil pan for the baffle and capacity.
I have W and Z exhaust manifolds.
I believe that the Toro 455 has different oil filter mounting parts, what parts do I need to get for the installation in the Cutlass?
What else do I need to know or get?
Thanks, Steve

Correct, you need the RWD oil filter adapter. While your 350 starter will bolt to the 455, you really want a high-torque version. Keep the water pump, accessory brackets, and pulleys together as a matched set. The Toro oil pan will fit the A-body chassis, but it's not the best choice. You'll probably want a thicker radiator. I'd recommend a clutch fan also. And of course use 2261 motor mounts with the original frame pads already in your car.
Thanks, Joe! A few questions:
1. RWD oil filter adapter: Where do I source this part? Any Olds V8 that was rear wheel drive?
2. High-torque starter: Any part number or source suggestions?
3. Pulleys and brackets: Okay to use the ones on the Toro engine?
4. I hadn't realized the Toro oil pan would physically fit in the A-body. If I change to an OEM 455 pan, do I have to do anything with oil pump pickup?

More questions:
*The Toro 455 still has its starter, is the configuration okay for the A-body?
*Oil dipstick and tube configuration on the Toro 455 okay for the A-body with my W/Z exhaust manifolds?

The Toro starter bolts to the Toro trans, not the motor. So, no it will not work on a RWD bellhousing. You can swap the Toro and Cutlass starter nose cones to use the larger Toro starter windings with the cutlass nose though. Use the oil filter adapter from the 350.

1. Yes, the adapter off of any RWD Olds motor.
2. The Toro starter bolts to the Toro trans, so it won't work in the RWD configuration, HOWEVER, you can swap the nose piece from the 350 starter onto the Toro starter. Of course, that's pretty much a starter teardown, so you MIGHTASWELL install a new starter drive, solenoid, and brushes while you're at it.
3. Depends on if both engines are A/C or not.
4. Toro pump and pickup are different from RWD. The dipstick is the same on Toro and other BBOs, but the tube is Toro-unique.

Non Toro:
(I couldn't find one with just the tube before I put on the manifold)
Toro:
I think the Toro tube will still fit with the W & Z manifolds, but you will have try it to be sure.

I appreciate your help, Joe. Please correct me on the following: Both cars are AC. The bare minimum for fit and function is changing the oil filter adapter, the exhaust manifolds, the upper engine mounts, the flexplate and the starter.
Yup. And to be clear, the Toro flexplate from a 1970 is the same one used in the RWD cars, but obviously with a manual trans you need a flywheel and the conversion bushing
