Tune up parts for '72 98
I prefer AC Delco spark plugs, PCV valve, distributor cap and rotor, fuel filter, ignition wire sets and most other maintenance parts when I perform service on GM vehicles. Others may chime in with other recommendations. I usually go to acdelco.com and find part numbers, then search the net for price and availability. I almost always wind up on Amazon. I find major retailers like Rock Auto, Auto Zone, Pep Boys, etc don't have parts for older vehicles.
I can't say much about the quality today. AC Delco when made in the US was fine. Standard Products (an alternate manufacturer) was always a real high quality ignition supplier. Their Standard Plus product line was a step better than even AC Delco.
When I had my 54, I went to ebay and bought the original Made In The USA Delco parts. The part number for the points is 1931988 and the condenser is 1932004. The points will come in a foil covered box that is orange, silver and black and the condenser will be in a similar colered box with a opening with cellophane to allow you to see the condenser.
As noted above, Standard Motor Products has a tip tier line with good quality parts.
NAPA also has good quality parts in their top-tier lines.
You can look parts up yourself on parts store web sites. These are two that I use frequently:
www.napaonline.com
www.rockauto.com
