Loose choke cap
Loose choke cap
Hey all I've been spending the last few days trying to adjust the automatic choke on my Holley 770 Street Avenger on my '72 U code Supreme, and for some reason, once I set it, the cap will "sping" forward a bit and rhrow my adjustment off ever so slightly. I can get it to about 1/8" gap between the choke plate and the horn, but no matter how far I dual it back to close it up a bit more, the cap won't tighten up and keep my adjustment
Any iseas?

Hmmm...I don't remember seeing one when I removed the cap to check the alignment of the choke rod tang and the spring. The weird thing is, the cap was tight before I started making adjustments. Is it possible to just make a gasket for the cap?
Should be able to get a $2.00 gasket which is removable (multiple times) and fits per OE specification at your local auto parts store. You may have (originally) had two gaskets - a felt type gasket between the thermostat housing and choke cap and another gasket which sits on the perimeter of the choke thermostat housing - not completely sure if a 770 Avenger has one or both or which type.
Figured it out...apparently when I took the cap off I somehow reversed the metal retaining ring so it was not making contact with the choke cap "pointer" I switched it around and voila! Choke cap is good n snug now😀 Thanks to all for the suggestions.
