455 Connecting rod to cam lobe clearance.

Installed my Eglin cam today .496" Intake .520" exhaust ..... 224 Intake 234 Exhaust @ .050 ...... My build includes Con. Rod H-beam connecting rods ....turning the engine over with 1/2" rachet at crankbolt found #4 connecting rod at the top portion ( shoulder ) of the rod where the rod bolt screws in hitting the the very top of the camshaft lobe , removed #4 piston & rod and am going to bring it to the machine shop to grind down a small portion for clearance & rebal.
With #4 rod and piston removed I was able to turn the crankshaft freely also checked all other cam lobe to rod clearance and they seemed fine except #8 cylinder seemed a little close , I happened to have very long feeler gauges
and measured .008 clearance ..... any thoughts ? does this seem too close ?
Engine is on an engine stand timing chain not installed .... Or will having the timing chain installed keep cam/crank timed thus keeping the lobe of the cam in proper distance from the crank ....was turning the camshaft by hand to various positions when I came across this...

Thanks in advance

Dayum!! I never thought there was that little clearance between the cam and rod bolts. Maybe it is the type of rod you are using.

You said the timing chain is not installed? If so, I would install and check, maybe you have the lobes out of sinc,I never heard of the clearance problem you stated, on a Olds before.

If you dont have the timing chain installed that is probably your problem. Put the chain on and try again. I bet you have plenty of clearance then.

^^^^^^^. Put the chain on it, you’ll have a mile and a half clearance.

Put the timing chain on , engine spins over no problem . I have never experienced this issue before . Kinda strange I have never experienced this before or heard of anyone running into this . Like I mentioned it was only when the crank was in a certain position .

THX for the input .
