Camshaft suggestions

Building the 455 on the 68 442. Car is a manual transmission 4 speed with 3.42 posi rear. I took out the worn out Lunati 31801 stick and lifters. Now this being said she is .20 over with dish pistons I think around 10-10.5:1. I removed all the aftermarket stuff ie headers aluminum intake etc and returning it back to stock w30 specs. Any suggestions for a w30 spec. cam? Primarily street/ highway occasional stock drag run maybe if I ever get there. Thanks Matt

You want it to sound bad ***, run good, or somewhere in between?

The stock W30 cam had a ton of overlap and will have the nostalgic big factory cam sound, but it was designed for use with headers. Having a bunch of cam overlap (large duration/narrow LSA) with exhaust manifolds just kills the engine because it doesn't scavenge well. You can have something in the low to mid 230's duration on a 112 LSA that will have some lope, but be a great performer. Could do like a 232/236 on a 112 or something similar, or a straight pattern. I got my last cam from Bullet, they were good to deal with, and everything they do is custom.

I like the Engle, 22-25-10, lot like the W30, but you can run power brakes with it. I have a 70 W30, with power brakes added, so I went that direction. runs, and sounds good. Not sure you can still get Engle cams, as been awhile since I bought one.

X2 for Bullet cams, they did the solid roller for my 461 build. It does not cost any more money to have a custom cam ground and get exactly what your looking for. Make sure you have all the information about your car when you call them, the more info you give them the closer your cam will be what you want.

I’d recommend one of the ones I’ve sold a hundred of, either a Hi flow 1(228/228@.050) or a hi flow II, 235/235@.050). Both would have .504 lift. I’d do them on a 112 cuz you have a stick, smooths it out a bit. But you’ll still hear it.
As far as scavenging goes, you can throw all that out the window unless you fill the crossovers and weld the dividers. The center 4 cyl sharing all that area just negates any benefit from a wider lobe sep.
