I'm having my 70 4spd W30 restored. Which means that the engine is also getting rebuilt. I was always a very (very) conservative driver. Unlike the original owner who; according to the dealership mechanic, broke the crank in the original motor four months after taking it home. The engine does not need bored. What IS the max RPM this engine can see. Briefly and/or sustained. The oiling system weaknesses are being addressed during the rebuild. Not that I plan on thrashing it now. But I do want to 'get into' her occasionally.

I am not the expert and you will have some good people giving advice but if you are just doing an original stock rebuild or even a little better than stock don't modify the oiling system. Just use a stock pump and shim it 1/4 inch. As far as RPM, There is no reason it will not handle 6000 RPM now and then like the factory redline. I would NEVER go past 6000. Personally, I would go with a modern roller cam and rockers with a quality piston and rod. Even for a restoration I would do this but keep it close to stock power. If it is going to be a trailer queen then it would not matter but if you are driving it then make it worthy of modern gas and oil.
