We are rebuilding a 69-455 engine that came from the factory with an automatic transmission. We are changing the heads to E code to match the 70-455 heads of that year. The 70-442 we are restoring was a factory 4 spd. Is it possible, or what do we need to do, if anything, to make sure the 4 spd manual setup will work on the 69 engine?
Here's a drawing of the factory 4 speed crankshaft. If yours doesn't have this you can either purchase a replacement one, or have your crank cut at a competent shop. I've had it done and my machine shop used a lathe to cut it out rather than drill it.
And here's a couple photos of the crankshaft itself. Note the depth of the hole and the steps in it. This will accept either a bearing or bushing.
Just to be clear, are you only asking about the provisions to mate the manual trans, or do you care about the exact, "factory correct" aspects of a 1970 442 manual trans motor? If the latter, there are differences like camshaft, carb, distributor, and intake casting number.
we are not sure what we will do. I am trying to find a 70-455 engine, or majority of the parts of one, I have E heads, with a manual setup. Not having alot of luck, seems they are somewhat rare. If I cant, we will have to modify what we have. the level of modification will be a $ decision.

Other than date codes, there is no difference between a 1970 block and the 1969 block that you have. Internal differences MIGHT be the pistons (for proper compression ratio) and cam profile. Everything else is the same. If you are planning on making internal mods, the this is irrelevant.
