Looking for some help with my 425. I'm in the middle of replacing the timing set. This is a first for me. I went to remove the old chain and it appears that the top sprocket is 180 degrees of where it should be as the dot is on the top. So now what? How do I get that top key turned 180 to align the dots on the new timing set? Thanks in advance
On my 65 425 both plugs had holes. Maybe went to only one in later years. Looking very close at figure 3-51 in 65CSM, it shows oil flowing from both passages to the chain. I reassembled with them. And yes, the rear one also had the hole. I have always wondered if later the one was replaced with a solid plug because the gurus found the side with a front and rear hole slightly starved for oil or oil pressure causing early rocker arm wear on that side.
[QUOTE=MDchanic;1009433]Don't do anything. It's fine.
Both dots at 12:00 = @1 TDC.
Crank at 12:00, Cam at 6:00 - #6 TDC.
You answered my next question!! It is nice to know there are expertise to lean on. My 65 Starfire is my first Olds and this is my first go around with making this car (and myself) better. The previous owners left this car in mechanical shambles so armed with my manuals and this forum, I will put Humpty Dumpty back together. Thanks again.
