i noticed a small leak coming from the weep hole on the bottom of my water pump so i decided to change it out .it looks to be the original so i would like to try and rebuild it for future use .anyone know where to get a rebuild kit for this pump ?and is that an original part number?thanks

 

I haven't heard of anyone locating a rebuild kit, but there are several places you can send your pump to have it rebuilt.

 

Thanks that's been the concenssus so far in my research . Not sure what a rebuilder would charge but I can find out .

 

Rebuilding water pumps was common for the Oldsmobile stage 1 V-8 engines. The procedure was detailed in the shop manuals and the individual parts were available from the Oldsmobile parts department. Apparently the attitude changed in the mid 1960s for the stage 2 engines. The procedure was eliminated from the shop manuals and the group numbers for the individual parts were eliminated from the parts books. Before 2005 there was a re-builder in New Orleans that would sell the individual components to walk-in customers. Hurricane Katrina eliminated that possibility. Sending it to a custom re-builder might be the best approach today. My guess is that the number is not the GM part number. The ones I have seen had six characters, all numeric.

 

I don't know what that number is, but I can get it to cross reference to a water pump that matches.

Last place I checked with said $100 for a rebuild that retained the factory cast impeller.

 

Thanks for checking on it for me . I'll go with an an Ac delco until I can figure out if it's stock or not . At this point I'm leaning towards "not".

 

just an update (and gripe i guess) changed out the water pump last night after work ,which is a fairly easy project one would think.couldnt use my original fan bolts because they are a fine thread ,and the new pump took course thread .that required a trip to the hardware store.once everything was finished i started to fill with antifreeze and noticed a leak coming out of the edge of the pump housing.turns out the supplied gasket wasnt getting full coverage at one point of the housing .btw this was a tru flow pump from napa (they didnt have the ac delco in stock and i didnt want to wait)to make a long story short i made my own gasket out of some gasket material i had and redid the whole thing .decided to let things sit overnight before filling.looking back i should have paid more attention to the fit before installing ,lesson learned .
